Have double-bass, will travel…

The Byre

The Byre

The guys are in a great run of weddings and events right now and the bookings are starting to come in for next year too, one up near the home of Freak Music in over the weekend at the rather magnificent Byre at Inchyra (main picture) where a lot of acts have played but it’ll be a first for the UK’s top vintage wedding act.

In the last few weeks alone they’ve wowed the guests at the Wellbeing farm (a typical set up below) in Lancashire and at the 17th century Holford estate performing their increasingly popular busking routines which they’ll generally do with a couple of guitars, the upright bass and Chris Hough will strap a snare drum around his neck and they’ll wander about the crowds.

Statham Lodge

Statham Lodge

As one of the best vintage wedding acts in the UK, the Riviera are starting to approach their busy spell as the spring turns in to summer, and they’ve a couple of glorious venues coming up this very weekend. On Friday they’re playing at the rather magnificent Statham Lodge (above) in Cheshire. This Georgian building is a privately owned hotel with 37 individually designed rooms and we’re hoping weather similar to the pic above on Friday.

On Saturday the guys are playing at the fantastically named Sirloin (below) over in Houghton, legend has it that king James I knighted a loin of beef he had enjoyed and in remembrance of the event a pub within the parish was renamed the Sirloin Inn. Which is nice.

Good time had by all at the Cripps Barn

The guys in action, nice bass drum Chris!

The guys in action, nice bass drum Chris!

The Riviera had the pleasure back in July of playing at the wedding of Jodie and Dan at the stunning Cripps Barn, near Cirencester. The couple wanted something a bit more inkeeping with the venue so a vintage wedding band was required and the guys were thought, rightly, to be the prefect fit and they even played Billie Holliday’s I’ll be seeing you before and All You Need is Love by some obscure 60s band called the Beatles after the ceremony as seen below.

The whole day was covered by Charlotte of Rock My Weddings and she put together a great write up of the day along with stunning photographs of the day by S6 Photography and we especially love the super 8 film shot by Matthew Modget, great idea for this type of day.

All the best to you all!

First public gig of the year!

Old Hall - 1st August

The Riviera play the Old Hall – 1st August 2014

The guys are delighted to have been asked to play at the glorious Old Hall in Sandbach this coming Friday at 8pm.  It’s free entry and it’s also curry night and they’d love to see you there…

The Riviera rock the tipis.

The band in the tipi

The band in the tipi

And so to the historic city of York, well a field just outside it technically, but still. The band played in a big tipi in a field last weekend at a civil ceremony between Karen and Caroline  and rocked the tent in their own inimitable vintage band way as the sun went down. Thanks for having us.

Thanks to Rachel Forcella and her great blog for the pic, read it here.

What a difference a year makes, as someone almost sang…

The Lodge on Loch Goil

Treehouse by The Lodge on Loch Goil

The last 12 months have seen a lot of progress in the Freak Music and the Riviera band project and all is going swimmingly. The guys have had a busy time of it, playing extensively not only in their home region of the North West but spreading their wings up to  The Lodge on Loch Goil (above), playing in a tipi in a field near York and down to Norfolk to play at the glorious Hoste and even managed to find time to play at a gold medal winning Olympian‘s wedding last year. The following twelve months is looking, if anything even busier with a further trip to the west coast of Scotland in the offing and a raft of weddings and corporate bookings looming large over the horizon too.

As one of the UK’s top end vintage wedding bands, the Riviera are in constant demand and as such we are turning down more gigs than we can take due to demand, which is a good problem to have obviously. If you’re looking to book in a band for your wedding day next year and these guys take your fancy then please get in touch with Chris at Freak Music using the contact form on this site

The pleasure was all ours.

For perhaps the first time in their existence the band played at a wedding on the 18th May which required them all to sign NDAs. We thought it was maybe some z-lister who just happened to have a taste in music, not impossible. This was was no z-lister, read on:

The Wedding of Jessica Ennis and Andy Hill 18th May 2013

Dear Rob,

I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to you all.

From the first time I contacted you; you were professional and friendly,

your passion for your work shone through.

This was evident when it came to your performance, your unique style and quality really was a breath of

fresh air, you created such a wonderful ambience at the reception.

Jessica and Andy and all their guests thought you were fantastic which I whole heartedly agree.

You were such a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to working with you again.

It’s great to find someone that you can totally trust with such an important task

and who works with the same passion and dedication as I do.

Thank you.

Emma Marygold.

Riviera play the Manchester Art Gallery

Riviera play the Manchester Art Gallery

The guys played a great wee gig last night at the Manchester Art Gallery for a great client, Payal (no, not Paypal) who’re an event management and catering company who specialise in Asian food. As you can see, Chris is clearly eyeing up the food in the pic.  This morning I received this from Charlotte at Payal:

“Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for everything from myself and the
rest of the Payal team. You have been so helpful and we really
appreciate everything you did in the run-up to the event – despite the
incredibly last minuteness of it!

Please pass our sincere thanks to the band. They were incredibly
professional, set-up in no time with no problems and absolutely made the
evening. We had so many compliments from our guests, asking where we
found them and asking for their name so that they could listen to them
when they got home! Absolutely amazing.”

Our pleasure, just sorry I couldn’t make it down to sample the food too.

Chris

Freak Music

The all-new 5 piece formation

The band started out as a three piece outfit but as our popularity and demand has grown, we’ve been working to beef up the sound.  Riviera now come as a standard 5 piece all-star formation comprising of:

Vocals & Rhythm Guitar
Lead Guitar
Double Bass
Keyboards
Drums

We can cut down the size of the band for smaller events but the 5 piece is now our highly recommended option. Call Freak for a price and availability check.

Riviera team up with Freak Music

We’ve been working with UK Entertainment agency Freak Music for around a year now and we’ve been very impressed by Chris and the guys and the professional way  they’ve been dealing with us.  We’re very pleased to move things forward with the Freaks, who’ll now be handling all of our direct bookings and booking management.
